Kollmorgen Motor Technology and Design Expertise Enable Advanced Robotics Capabilities for Tartan Rescue Team’s CHIMP Humanoid Robot

The Tartan Rescue Team, has designed and built an advanced robot known as CHIMP (CMU Highly Intelligent Mobile Platform).

The team is a partnership of the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC),and  the applied research and technology transfer organization of Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) world renowned Robotics Institute.

CHIMP will be entered in the DARPA Robotics Challenge and utilizes Kollmorgen's frameless motor technology in each of its drive joints to deliver advanced functionality and significant performance benefits. This advanced functionality also paves the way for new mobile manipulation and manufacturing automation applications.

Kollmorgen Expands Global Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales Footprint by Acquiring Leading Brazilian Motion Control Manufacturer

Kollmorgen has acquired MCS Engenharia Ltda. MCS is a leading Brazilian-based manufacturer and system integrator of standard and customized high performance motion controllers and complementary motion control components. 

Established in 1983 and headquartered in Tamboré, São Paulo, Brazil, MCS is the largest domestic supplier of precision motion controllers. The company was also the first Brazilian-based motion control manufacturer. The acquisition combines both companies’ industry-leading expertise, technology and products, making Kollmorgen resources readily available to Brazilian machine builders and making MCS resources available to Kollmorgen customers around the world. Day-to-day operations at MCS will remain unchanged.
