Kollmorgen Technology Drives Virginia Tech's BOLT Electric Motorcycle to Victory

VT BOLT, Virginia Tech's entry to the 2012 all-electric TTXGP is a 100 percent electric racing motorcycle – driven by a low voltage Kollmorgen AKM™ 74 AC permanent magnet motor and Kollmorgen's latest ACS80XL 80V Gen6 drive.

The results have been impressive, with the AKM motor and ACS drive enabling VT BOLT to achieve top speeds in excess of 100 mph with consistently high-performance throughout the duration of each 20 mile race using a 7.5 kilowatt hour battery pack.  VT BOLT was a first place winner of all three of its TTX75 races, solidifying VT BOLT as the 2012 North American TTX75 Cup winner.

Kollmorgen's standard technology platforms are ideal for a wide variety of high-performance applications in that they are easily customized to meet the specific needs of a particular application, and the VT BOLT project was no exception. Kollmorgen not only helped the VT BOLT team identify and integrate components into an optimized system, but with the company's sophisticated application support Kollmorgen was able to provide insight into how VT BOLT would perform on the track before it was built.

Differentiated Solutions were in Motion at PACK EXPO 2012

"This is the best GUI I've ever seen...it saves us significant time in getting machines
up and running."  That's how a major packaging machine builder described their experience with Kollmorgen's AKD® Workbench.

The tool is used to configure, program and monitor AKD® servo drives – and it's just one of many examples from PACK EXPO illustrating how Kollmorgen's motion control solutions and expertise are helping OEMs build a competitive advantage, and get it to market faster.

For those of you among the record breaking 45,000+ attendees whom we had an opportunity to meet at the show, thank you for the opportunity to demonstrate how better motion can be the difference between a commodity machine and a truly differentiated solution that delivers measurable results.

For those who were unable to attend, we hope video highlights from this year's show will spark your interest in talking with us about your needs, and attending PACK EXPO 2013 scheduled for September 23-25, in Las Vegas, NV!

Give us a call at 540-633-3545 and let's talk about how we can work together to differentiate your machine, or request more information by sending a note to packaging@kollmorgen.com.
